TOBY BARTLETT is a Winnipeg based artist who works in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, and photography. Creating art from a very young age on, he has been a practicing professional artist and designer for over thirteen years.
Toby is always exploring new mediums and ways to be creative. He is constantly inspired by nature and culture that surround him, and uses these artistic explorations as the basis for his design work. Most recently, Toby has delved into photography. Specifically, he looks at how digital manipulation allows for new styles of images and the moods contained within them to be created.
This series of photographs was taken over a period of six months of Bartlett's life, and focuses on Winnipeg places that move him. He has always been fascinated by how something that is considered to be beautiful can be so negative to some, and how something that is considered to be ugly can be so positive to others. This body of work conveys both the positive and negative associations Toby has with a place in a single image.
