LINK PHILLIPS merges digital illustration with photography, creating images full of depth and brilliant colour. He explains, "I love playing with figure/ground, simplicity/complexity, and probing the limits of how much information is needed to construct a recognizable image. I call these pieces pixel arrangements (partly in homage to Whistler) to differentiate them from photographs. I start with a digital image, but from then on, editing takes place on the pixel level, resulting in something different from the original."
Link worked in commercial television for many years; as a camera operator, a writer, a director, and in program development. As well, he has worked as a daily newspaper television critic, and as production coordinator for a community access TV channel. Along the way, he has also owned a book store, worked as a bee keeper, and cooked in a vegetarian restaurant. Currently, Phillips divides his time between commercial design, and his own art practice.
