Brent Ray Fraser is a 31 year-old full-time artist who lives below his art studio in Fort Langley, BC. Renovated out of a grain silo, he paints upstairs in an octagon shaped space, producing a unique style of art. During the creative process, Fraser’s Silo Studio simulates a fashion factory. Mass production strategies and customized painting techniques allow Fraser to hybridize his art with consumerism.
“I have a love and hate relationship with consumer products. I love and hate wearing them, I love and hate purchasing them and I love and hate advertisements. Although I have mixed emotions about consumerism I love incorporating it into my art.”
Brent Ray Fraser is no stranger to the fashion world. A graduate of Emily Carr University, Fraser was selected by Louis Vuitton in 2008 to draw luxury shoes at large events across Canada. From that point on he began to appreciate the artistic power of portraying luxury garments within his art.
Everything from the shoes, suit jackets, purses and wallets to the clothing hangers, sale racks and price tags; Fraser’s artwork reflects the shopping experience for luxury goods.
Fraser’s art celebrates our current modes of expression. They reflect our beauty as an artistic culture, accentuate our appreciation of the art we wear and challenge our characteristics of individuality.
Not only is his artwork exhibited and collected internationally, his talents expand into the acting world. Everything from drawing, painting and videos to live art performances and edgy short films, this artist always pushes his creative boundaries.
